Graduate Media Arts students will complete a number of seminars, group critiques, and programming media courses along with research projects and a final thesis project. Course examples for this program include Programming Media, Contemporary Topics in Media Arts, Virtuality, Creating Context & Collaborative Practice, and TA Training. The Graphic Design MFA at Otis College of Art and Design features an accelerated curriculum spanning four consecutive semesters completed over 14 months. The program, which typically begins in the summer semester, consists of studio projects, workshops led by visiting artists and designers, round table discussions, and courses in history and design theory. Course examples for the program include Contemporary Graphic Design Issues, Models of Practice, Seminar Studio I-IV, and Entrepreneurship. The College of the Arts at California State University-Long Beach (CSULB) houses the School of Art (SoA), which employs over 130 full-time and part-time faculty that serve nearly 2,000 students. The College of Arts & Sciences at University of San Francisco (USF) houses the Department of Art + Architecture, home to the Design BA Program. Consisting of 49 units in the major, this interdisciplinary program explores Graphic Design, Environmental Design, and Digital Media Design. Course examples include Visual Communication I-II, Fabrication Lab, Design Fundamentals, Typography, History of Western Design, and Digital Media Design.
Visual Literacy, Typographics IA-IB, and Graphic Design Theory are just a few required courses for the program. The architecture and urban design program adopts an environmentally conscious, community approach to architecture and design to address social issues. Yuan submitted to the strategy category with a proposal for a partnership between Adidas and French biochemical company Carbios, together using enzymatic technology to recycle polyester from used textiles.
